Memories of Fifty Years

October 16th, 1905

written by Gertrude R. (Steimel) McCully

To my children:

I have lived my three score year and ten,
And it's near the time to say AMEN.
Fifty years since I married your dad,
Only seventeen years together we had,
Thirty years of toil and strife,
Never a dull moment in our life,
Of sorrows many we had our share,
But our joys and blessings did compare,
Seven children to us were born,
Four boys, sturdy and strong,
Three girls healthy and nice,
Then again, Death struck us twice,
And took our oldest two - Jim and Bill,
It took a lot of courage some days,
To remember it was His Holy will,
We made it with faith and love,
Always trusting in Him above,
Today let us all give thanks to Him,
For fifty years of memories and love.
